Get On Your Vespa As Producer Officially Announces ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ Sequel

We were a little shocked that last year’s ‘THE POPE’S EXORCIST’ did fairly well at the box office scaring up $76.9 million on a production budget of just $18 million. Academy Award winner Russell Crowe plays real-life exorcist Gabriele Amorth in the horror film and it wasn’t long before Screen Gems were discussing a sequel. It looks like today they have officially announced it’s happening.

The Pope’s Exorcist producer Jeff Katz took to Twitter last night to officially announce The Pope’s Exorcist 2, tweeting: “Amorth Nation — I just got the call. It’s officially happening!”

Katz added in last night’s tweet, “Thank you to the amazing #ThePopesExorcist fans. You made this happen. Gas up your Lambretta – and get ready to ride.”

Russell Crowe spoke in an interview that a trilogy of films was originally discussed and if this sequel does as well or better than the first film, we could see Crowe battling demons for a few years to come.

We set that character up that you could take him out and put him into a lot of different circumstances,” Crowe recently said. “And remember that the man that’s based on, Gabriele Amorth, he wrote twelve books. So we have more than enough source material to do one or two more of those films. But that probably won’t be until next year.”

Julius Avery (Overlord) directed The Pope’s Exorcist.

We’ll bring you more as it develops.
