1986s 'THE HITCHER' Being Restored For Epic 4K UHD Release Later This Year!

Last year, Second Sight Films announced they were working on 1986s ‘The Hitcher’ but at that time, there was no mention of a 4k release. It looks like this bad news has been lifted and now we have a few more details regrading the release that is confirmed to be in 4k.

Second Sight informed fans this week that an original negative of the film was found and thus a 4k restore was going to happen.

The UK company announced this morning, “We’ve tracked down the [original camera] negative!! We will be doing a full restoration for a 4K and Blu-ray release later this year!”

Since Second Sight is a UK company, we’re assuming the blu-ray will be region B but thank goodness 4k has been globally accepted and there are no region restrictions for it.

Released in 1986, The Hitcher starred the late Rutger Hauer as a murderous hitchhiker and C. Thomas Howell as the young man who makes the mistake of picking him up. The film was written by Eric Red (Near Dark, Bad Moon), and directed by Robert Harmon.
