Horror from the North: Celebrating Canadian Horror on Canada Day

As an elder millennial it blows my mind just how much access to horror films we have at our fingertips. I sometimes have to remind myself not to take this for granted, especially considering that for a good 16 or so years of my life the only way to see things outside of the norm was to be fortunate enough to have a great local video store to go to.  Now, streaming services are fiending for fresh content and it doesn’t matter where it comes from. And while access has never been easier, when it comes to Candian horror we still hear the same names and titles bandied about. I mean this with no disrespect to the Cronenbergs, but there is a lot more to Canadian horror than Videodrome and Possessor (which are great).

So for Canada Day, we at Macabre Daily set out to help expand our horizons by speaking with some amazing Canadian filmmakers to get their take on what makes Canadian horror unique, what are some ways to support the Canadian horror scene, and also some great hidden gems across different film and print.
