Blumhouse Releases News Of Newest Horror Movie That Goes Beyond Imagination With ‘Imaginary’ (2024)

Imaginary friends are typically considered innocent companions of children. They can take an eerie turn when viewed through a much darker lens. The idea of a kid interacting with an unseen entity, holding conversations, and forming attachments to something intangible, can evoke a sense of unease. The line between a kid’s imagination and the dark world of the supernatural becomes easily blurred as these imaginary friends may develop distinct and potentially evil personalities or behaviors that mimic something otherworldly. The fear can intensify when these companions seem to influence a kid’s actions or emotions, raising some unsettling questions about where the source or the nature of the imaginary bond was created.

What makes the concept of this even more chilling and terrifying is the potential for imaginary friends to reflect repressed fears or traumas. In some cases, these manifestations may serve as a conduit for something sinister or demonic (who doesn’t remember the evil bestie Toby from ‘Paranormal Activity 3’?) that could conjure layers of haunting complexity. The fear with that lies not just with the presence of these imaginary companions, but in the shadowy realms of the subconscious that may unveil. It could potentially challenge our understanding of the boundaries between reality and the chilling world of the supernatural.

Blumhouse recently announced a new movie coming out called ‘Imaginary’. Blumhouse is the genre-defining masterminds behind the recent release of the theatrical adaptation of ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’ and the robotic toy gone bad ‘M3GAN’. It is presented by Lionsgate with Blumhouse and is a Tower of Babble production. This original horror film will tap into the innocence of imaginary friends and begs the question: “Are they really figments of childhood imagination or is something more terrifying lying just beneath?”. The synopsis for this newest addition to the horror-inducing library of movies is as follows:

“When Jessica (DeWanda Wise) moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter Alice (Pyper Braun) develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey she finds in the basement. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that begin playfully and become increasingly sinister. As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.”

This new horrific journey into the crazy story of ‘Imaginary’ is directed by Jeff Wadlow. It was also written by Jeff Wadlow, Greg Erb, and Jason Oremland. Produced by Jason Blum and Jeff Wadlo. The cast of the movie stars DeWanda Wise, Tom Payne, Target Burns, Pyper Braun, with Veronica Falcon and Betty Buckley.
