Dead and Gone Fishing?: "The Fisherman" by John Langan Takes A Look At The Intensity Of Grief

A literary masterpiece diving into the intensity of grief unlike anything I've ever read before, including Stephen King’s Pet Sematary (blasphemy, I know). Langan exposes and explores the hidden thoughts and dark feelings associated with loss in a nautical folktale that spans decades. Using two storylines that span decades, Langan interweaves the story of 'Der Fischer,' a German legend that has the power to bring the dead back to life. However, they do not return as they were in life; instead, they haunt and attack in search of victims to help bring power to Der Fischer.

I have a pretty good grasp on the team’s various movie tastes, BUT not so much what they enjoy curling up in bed with and reading until they fall asleep and have dreams worthy of Stephen King’s nightmares! So, I posed the question to the team; what is your favorite horror book of all time?

Starting off with Our Editor and Chief, Sam! I won’t lie, this one surprised me…

Campfire Stories: Inside the new book “Sleepaway Camp: Making the Movie and Reigniting the Campfire!”

This year marks 40 years since the release of “Sleepaway Camp,” which is both hard and easy to imagine.  Easy, because it’s dated, yet hard because it hasn’t aged.  It’s still the deranged slasher wrapped around a sweet tween romance (and for some reason, an entire baseball game).  Not to mention one of the most infamous endings in horror.  While it’s celebrated at cons and revival screenings, author Jeff Hayes has written “Sleepaway Camp: Making the Movie and Reigniting the Campfire,” a new book chronicling the making of the film.

"Cutting Teeth" By Chandler Baker - Another Reason To Not Have Kids

“Cutting Teeth" by Chandler Baker is a vampiric ode to motherhood told in what I like to call a 'slice of life horror' setting. Published in 2023, this novel uses the day-to-day chaos of modern parenting as an unlikely background for a horror story, exposing the inner thoughts of mothers—no matter how disturbing—and revealing what mothers will do to protect their children.
